Secret Weapons

As the setting sun comes crashing down on me

Epic Records

Odds are you probably haven't heard of Secret Weapons, but you need to because their music is killer and they're bound to be one of the next big pop bands. I discovered the New York based indie pop duo a few months ago when the group released "Comeback Season" as the third single from their debut album, the very well put together dance track hooked me and I've been waiting for this album since.

The album opens with "Ghost" which is by far the weakest track on the album, however I still think the track is decent, but one I wouldn't revisit frequently. Following "Ghost" there is a run of 7 high energy dance tracks, and all of them are ridiculously good. "Limousine", "Power", and "Betty You Gone Wild (Midnight Song, Pt. I) are the stand out tracks from that part of the album and some of the best of the entire album. The intro to "Limousine" changes up their sound of the album, only being the second track. The build-up in "Power" is insane leading into one of the best breakdowns in dance music this year, this track should definitely be a single, it's catchy, it's beat is addictive, it's the perfect dance track. "Betty Who Gone Wild (Midnight Song, Pt. I)" is all around a stellar track, the instrumentation during the chorus is sick, the vocals during the pre-chorus are great.

"Something New" and "My Blue Heaven" bring a slightly less intense dance feel, and a more indie pop vibe than the rest of the album. Both of the tracks are once again great tracks. "konichiwild" at it's start slightly confused by but as the song progressed it grew on be a lot and it one of my favorites from the album. The album closes with "Fire Burning" which is my favorite track from the album. I think closing with this track was a perfect to bring the album to an end. The track has a dance feel without getting into a hardcore dance breakout and remains a chill track, until about two minutes in when it's sound changes completely and picks up speed into a slightly rock dance track. Overall, this album is killer and I highly recommend checking out Secret Weapons.
