After what seemed like a never ending lawsuit against former producer Dr. Luke, pop superstar Kesha has returned to the scene, releasing "Praying", her first solo track since the 2012 album Warrior.
In 2013, Kesha filed a lawsuit against her producer, who up until that point had produced every track Kesha released. The lawsuit claimed the Dr. Luke had raped, physically and mentally abused Kesha. After a 4-year back and forth legal battle, Kesha finally was released from her lifetime contract with Luke. Due to the legal battle, Kesha was unable to release music, many long time fans have stuck by her, and supported for the entirety of the legal battle, starting #FreedomForKesha in 2014, and continuing throughout the rest of the lawsuit.
"Praying" is the lead single from Kesha's upcoming third studio album Rainbow, set to be released on August 11th. From first listen, I've been blown away by this track, I love Kesha, her music has had a huge impact on my life, and I knew I'd like the track, but I was never expecting a track like this one.

The song is directed toward her former producer, in the chorus and the bridge Kesha expresses that she hopes he comes to peace with what he has done, Kesha sings "Oh, sometimes, I pray for you at night / Oh, someday, maybe you'll see the light / Oh, some say, in life you gonna get what you give / But some things, only God can forgive", which is among one of the many powerful parts of the this track. Kesha is reflective of her past and her legal battle, while having an optimistic outlook on her future. She realized that she never needed him and that she can make it on her own. Another powerful part from the track "When I'm finished, they won't even know your name / You brought the flames and you put me through hell / I had to learn how to fight for myself / And we both know all the truth I could tell / I'll just say this is I wish you farewell", slams the producer for things he has done to her.
The vocal performance on this track is truly stunning during the last chorus Kesha hits and holds a beautiful note, I get chills every time I hear it. Her vocals throughout are gorgeous and I'm so glad she is using her voice in such a beautiful way. The video for the track, linked below, is even more powerful than the song, with a monologue about Kesha asking God to give her a sign, or she was going to give up. I'm truly so happy for Kesha, it is great to see such a talent be able to express 4 years of beautiful emotional music. I'm super excited to see what Rainbow will sound like. I highly recommend listening to this track, even if you don't like her, it is unreal how powerful it is.
