Cane Hill: The New Face of Metal

Cane Hill, a heavy metal band from New Orleans, made up of Elijah Witt, James Barnett, Ryan Henriquez, and Devin Clark, have quickly become one of my favorite metal bands. Cane Hill, named after a psychiatric hospital in the United Kingdom, combine the sounds of Slipknot, Marilyn Manson, and Rob Zombie into one insane sound.

I discovered the band while seeing the Insane Clown Posse at a bar in Greensboro, and they were the by far the best all around performers there. I have since seen the group a total of 3 times, and plan to see them 3 times in 3 different states on their upcoming summer tour with Hellyeah. Having never seen them perform a headlining set, I am yet to see a main act that has out-performed them. They are one of the most energetic bands I have ever seen.

The band released their debut EP Cane Hill in Fall of 2015, the insane debut EP features "Time Bomb" and a personal favorite of mine "Gemini", both of which are frequently performed. The group is signed to Rise Records, the label has also signed huge rock band Five Finger Death Punch, Of Mice and Men, and the female-fronted PVRIS.

The follow-up to Cane Hill was the groups debut album Smile, which spawned lead single "(The New) Jesus" and a very controversial music video. Lead singer Elijah Witt said in an interview is Kerrang: "It’s time to reconsider who you idolize/worship". The song blatantly expresses the groups views on religion, and the video continues to express that. "(The New) Jesus" has recently began to gain traction on SiriusXM's Octane, which features new hard rock and metal artist, like Cane Hill and bands like In This Moment, peaking at #7 on the station. The song is one of the band's biggest and best. When they perform the song live, it is impossible not to be moving. The album produced singles "True Love" and "You're So Wonderful", both of which are great songs. My personal favorite track of the group is "Mggda", an acronym of My Good Goddamn America, is the albums opening track and showcases all angles of the band in a great way,

Cane Hill is the best new band in metal right now. They have blown every artist I've ever seen them with off the stage. The combination of the groups amazing lyrical style, the high energy show they put on, the music they are producing, and what the group stands for, makes them an all around amazing musical group.
