Lorde: Green Light

Green Light, the lead single from Lorde's long awaited sophomore album "Melodrama" came out on Thursday, and I love it. It's been almost 4 years since the release of Lorde's first album, 4 years is a long time for any artist, but taking 4 years to follow a massive debut album is very risky in the ever changing pop music industry. Green Light doesn't sound like anything we've ever heard from Lorde, and it was a bold choice for a comeback single, however, it is more radio friendly than almost everything from "Pure Heroine", which was definitely a smart choice. Personally, I'm a huge fan of the song and love the new direction Lorde is taking her music. That being said, after reading comments on her official YouTube channel, some fans are very disappointed by this new song because it sounds to "mainstream", well she's a top 40 artist, so it would make since for it to sound mainstream. That being said, Lorde produced one of the best albums of this decade, and is a very young artist, and person, and I think her changing her style is nothing more than her growing as a person, and if fans don't want to see her growth and her talent evolve into a massive star, they don't have to. The official release date for "Melodrama" is unknown, as of now, but it likely to be released before her performances as Coachella, and will likely be out in with the next few months. I am very much excited to see what she does, and I think she will have an amazing year.
